Building Healthy Communities

Building healthy communities is an important part of our mission at AmeriHealth Caritas North Carolina (ACNC). Here, you can learn about programs, partnerships, member stories, community events and other ways we’re building and strengthening communities in North Carolina.

MANNA FoodBank — Western North Carolina

Improving food access

We are partnering with MANNA FoodBank to support their Essential Foods Program. With our multi-year $5 million investment, we hope to create more sustainable access to healthy food and strengthen local growers in western North Carolina. We also hope to replace and improve strategic infrastructure and expand community food hubs across 16 western North Carolina counties and the Qualla Boundary.

Addressing period poverty

During this Care Crew℠ event at our Greensboro Wellness & Opportunity Center, our ACNC leadership team joined some of our great Triad-area associates to pack more than 150 feminine hygiene kits for teenagers. These kits will be donated to local high schools to support students who may not be able to afford period products.

AMY Wellness Foundation

Building homes, rebuilding lives

AMY Wellness Foundation, backed by the investment from AmeriHealth Caritas North Carolina, and in partnership with Chief Cares, is investing $10 million to help western North Carolina continue its recovery from Hurricane Helene. Specifically, AMY Wellness Foundation will focus on supporting families in Avery, Mitchell and Yancey Counties and help them move from crisis to stability and create long-term pathways to health, opportunity and home ownership.

The project will support three new neighborhoods in the three-county region, welcoming many who lost their homes in Hurricane Helene. The first to open, Blue Haven in Avery County, welcomed its first residents in December 2025.

Garner United Methodist Church

Back to School Bash

We partnered with the United Way of the Greater Triangle to sponsor the Back to School Bash held by Garner United Methodist Church. This event helped thousands of families get school supplies and access to the support they need to ensure their children are ready for school. Families also received hot meals, and those with young children also received diapers for infants and toddlers.
